I would check into the Aveda Institute. They are students but have had schooling and have an instructor nearby checking on them. They are way cheaper than other places and you still get to go the professional route.ReplyCancel

I also dye my hair with L'oreal, and I usually price match and use a coupon so it ends up costing around $6. I used to get my hair professionally colored and I got sick of spending $50-$100 for a cut and a color. I am surprised at how well the L'Oreal turns out and it doesn't look too flat or one dimensional either. The only downside is that it does fade a little faster than the professional stuff, so I have to do it a little more frequently… but for six bucks I guess I could do it every week if I wanted to and STILL save money! I go to my husbands cousing I pay $60 to him for a cut and color and that is a really good price. I saw a lady write a check to him once for over $100. Yikes! If you find someone that does it from their home it is usually a little cheaper (but not much). I have been too afraid to do the box because I like to have a base color and highlights or a darker color with it. I should get it done about every 10 weeks tops but it usually is about every 3+ months because I hate to spend the $$.ReplyCancel

Since highlights became too expensive, I use drugstore box color all the time to touch up the roots. I think it works great!ReplyCancel

I'm a hairstylist in Utah actually and if you can't make it to a salon I would agree with the Loreal users. If you are just going darker, I would say its just fine. However, if you have any friends who do hair, just ask one of them to get you some color from the beauty supply they use and beg your sweet hubby to slap it on for ya. I have really long dark hair and I just mix it up at home and smear in on with my hands and use a wide tooth comb or pick to evenly spread it out. I have gotten sooooo tired of plucking my greys as well. It's the price we hot brunettes pay to stay gorgeous!!ReplyCancel

I do hair..and yes it can get quite pricey. Most salons charge $45 to $55 for just roots and people w/ gray usually come every 5-7 weeks. If you have a Sally's near you they sell professional color and you can buy all the stuff to do it yourself w/ the help of hubby. So you can get the good professional color w/ out the high price if you don't mind doing it yourself! Good luck!ReplyCancel
