So my other very favorite local purchase in Utah was this little headband. Each one is made from a vintage hankie and they are beautiful! I wish I had bought 2 or 3 more. They are made by a company called La Rose Designs, although their website is a little hard to navigate and I don’t see these particular headbands on their site, you can find some other cute hair accessories here. And if you’re in Provo stop by the Flower Basket Boutique and pick up your own vintage hankie head band. And then one more for me.
Also, I need to pose a hair question to all you readers out there. Remember how I’ve been needing to dye my hair because I can no longer continue to pluck out all my grey hairs? Remember? So in Utah I got my hair dyed professionally. Yay! It turned out great. The problem is that it cost a lot. More than I expected. More than my husband wants me to spend. Ever. On anything. So my questions are 1) how much do you pay to get your hair dyed? 2) How often do you pay to get your hair dyed? 3) Do you ever (or always) just do it yourself with dye from the grocery store? Since I’m not a fan of just all over flat color can you just touch up grey’s from a box?

I would check into the Aveda Institute. They are students but have had schooling and have an instructor nearby checking on them. They are way cheaper than other places and you still get to go the professional route.
Commenting for the first time in a while to say: I color my hair myself with L'Oreal…the color turns out well, easy to follow directions and costs under $10. But then again, I'm a grad student.
It was so great to see you while you were here in Utah… I wish I could have talked to you more and got to know you a little better! You have a darling family, and I could not believe how well manored your kids were! You really are super mom!
I also dye my hair with L'oreal, and I usually price match and use a coupon so it ends up costing around $6. I used to get my hair professionally colored and I got sick of spending $50-$100 for a cut and a color. I am surprised at how well the L'Oreal turns out and it doesn't look too flat or one dimensional either. The only downside is that it does fade a little faster than the professional stuff, so I have to do it a little more frequently… but for six bucks I guess I could do it every week if I wanted to and STILL save money! Here in Calif I pay 65. plus tip. If I want highlights it's more of course.

I think Alicia has a girl she goes to and it's only $30, also, Sis. Pressgrove is a hairdresser (she's supposed to be pretty good), so you might check her, too.
I go to my husbands cousing I pay $60 to him for a cut and color and that is a really good price. I saw a lady write a check to him once for over $100. Yikes! If you find someone that does it from their home it is usually a little cheaper (but not much). I have been too afraid to do the box because I like to have a base color and highlights or a darker color with it. I should get it done about every 10 weeks tops but it usually is about every 3+ months because I hate to spend the $$.

Since highlights became too expensive, I use drugstore box color all the time to touch up the roots. I think it works great!
I have dark hair with LOTS of grey. : ) I am embracing my greyness and have never dyed it!
I'm a hairstylist in Utah actually and if you can't make it to a salon I would agree with the Loreal users. If you are just going darker, I would say its just fine. However, if you have any friends who do hair, just ask one of them to get you some color from the beauty supply they use and beg your sweet hubby to slap it on for ya. I have really long dark hair and I just mix it up at home and smear in on with my hands and use a wide tooth comb or pick to evenly spread it out. I have gotten sooooo tired of plucking my greys as well. It's the price we hot brunettes pay to stay gorgeous!!

Annie–In theory I think the idea is beautiful and when I actually have enough grey perhaps it will look nice…but the reality right now is the far opposite of classy or attractive. Wirey little bastards.
Linda–yes when I get LOTS I think I might like it too…but just a few stragglers aren't doing it for me.
I do hair..and yes it can get quite pricey. Most salons charge $45 to $55 for just roots and people w/ gray usually come every 5-7 weeks. If you have a Sally's near you they sell professional color and you can buy all the stuff to do it yourself w/ the help of hubby. So you can get the good professional color w/ out the high price if you don't mind doing it yourself! Good luck!
Find a friend who can get you professional colors, pick one you love and just do the whole bottle thing, but the good kind, ya know? My mom is licensed and she doesn't have the energy for fancy stuff anymore so I do an all over Paul Mitchell "clove"….it's like 6 bucks a bottle.
