Why I Love Garage Sales

The hubs and I are garage sale junkies.  There are so many reasons I love a good garage sale, in some ways even more than a thrift/antique store.  First off, there is a lot less stuff than at an actual thrift/antique store so you don’t have nearly as much digging to do.  Also, haggling… you can haggle at a garage sale, but not usually at a thrift store.  And of course the most obvious reason is that a garage sale is just a precursor to what ends up at a thrift store… garage sales are filled with stuff that people think still holds value, so they sell the good stuff and whatever is left over {ie the junk} gets sent to goodwill afterwards.  Anway, here are some more specific reasons and finds from the last couple weeks…
So this doll bed.  I HAD to have it.  Beanie didn’t care that much, but I HAD to have it…for her, obviously.  {She’ll thank me later!… I tell myself.} I LOVE finding vintage treasures like this.  It’s a great way to get unique toys with charm.  I’m planning on making a little mattress, sheet set and quilt for this bed.  Emphasis on the planning.  Anyway, unique stuff.

Second, fabric.  This whole stash cost me 3 dollars.  There are 15 bundles in there…sooooo that’s a good deal in case you missed the point.
Third, vintage fabric.  Vintage fabric often comes in the form of sheet sets or pillow cases–which is what this fabric happens to be. I LOVE this fabric and can’t wait to find the perfect project/occasion to use it.
And finally, I love finding those items that you’ve been wanting to buy but just haven’t…and now you’ve found them for much cheaper.  Latch lid jars can run $7-8 per jar.  These cost $.50 a jar.
So now that it’s summa’ time I hope you take advantage of all the garage sale fun.  My only warning…it may become a small addiction.  So watch yourself.  {And check for bed bugs.}
