I don't blame you. This must be so hard for you. High risk pregnancy is hard, and it's different for every body but hard no matter what. It sucks to worry, it sucks to be stressed and it sucks to go to the hospital so much. And how have you been doing that all AND caring for the child you already have? What I'm getting at, is that you've done a great job, even if youdont feel like you have. You really have. A lot of people wouldn't have given lamp a chance to live, and you are going above and beyond to welcome her into the world safely and to be loved unconditionally.
I hope everything goes as well as possible for you with the delivery. I hope you hold her and kiss her and feelthat all this hard stuff (and the future hard stuff) will be worth it. Go miggy! You're my favorite.ReplyCancel

It seems so unfair that you should be dealing with sickness and rehydration and bed rest on top of everything else. I know, I know. Life isn't fair. But still.
I know that the challenges won't end with delivery, but I still hope that the safe arrival of Lamp brings you joy and comfort.

Ummm, I check in on your blog occasionally and saw you asked about C-sections. Triggered an auto response in me because my C-section was a big deal to me. My first was a C-section and second VBAC. The recoveries were very different in many ways but the same in some…bleeding with both, for instance. And being completely hormonal and bluesy and offended by the nurses, too–both times. Nurses might be a little more inclined to bug you after a C-section, but if you don't feel like being bugged, just put a sign on the door! It works. Just make sure you have enough pain meds, and someone nearby to pick up the baby when she cries, if she is in the room with you.
Probably one big thing I remember is: if you have practiced "labor breathing" and relaxation techniques in the past, use those for your first bowel movement. So not kidding!!
Also–make sure the surgeon does a good job with strong little stitches sewing your uterus back up. The better job he does there, the safer your VBAC. And that's the other thing–it's no longer "once a C-section, always a C-section." So if you have more babies, VBACs are safe! Not all doctors are supportive of them but many are.
I was sad about my son no longer being an only child, but my relationship with him now is actually much stronger than it ever was. I am able to make time for each of my kids, which I cherish, and it's a beautiful thing to have two.

I love the book "Expecting Adam" by Martha Beck. Yes, she's a little controversial, but this beautiful true story was something that I couldn't put down and couldn't stop thinking about. It was beautiful, uplifting, and I felt really inspired after reading it. It really gave me a glimpse into the eternal nature of our lives and relationships and children. I still find myself thinking about specific sentences that I had to read out loud they were so good.
It's a little big, but reads really fast. I think I finished in under a week.ReplyCancel

So I've read The 4 Loves, The Hunger Games, and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. All great recommendations–so that of course makes me excited for the others.
Expecting Adam–that sounds good, I wonder if I can find it at the Cincy Library. The Glass Castle and My Life in France both sound good. Love Walked In, The Lost Symbol and The Help…also good…I'm going to start searching what our Library carries… Keep em coming! My mother has just completed a year of aggressive chemo that kept her flat out most of the time. The saving grace was the library books I requested for her online (long-distance) and my father retrieved every week. Could someone perhaps do something similar for you?ReplyCancel
So you've totally shattered two of my secret dreams: bedrest and hospital life. I always knew it was a bad day when I envied the patients in the hospital {most often the OB patients on bedrest} and would have traded places with them…room service, naps, chillin' with a good book or movie. It's not as good as it appears??? And then, when I was pregnant during my PICU rotation I was desperately hoping to be put on bed rest. Guess I'll have to aspire to something new.

Bed rest stinks! I really liked doing crossword puzzles, and watching BBC mini-series:) This time around, my mom kept supplying me with new movies for Graham to watch with me, which made me feel like we were doing fun things together, even though we were vegging out:)

I don't know if it's because it's EARLY in the morning or simply because she is just a little angel but I just got all teary-eyed seeing that sweet picture and knowing that she's here and doing well! After seeing her sweet little face, 3 wks. seems sooooo far away!
