You don't know me, but I found your blog way back and I have loved reading it. I commented forever ago, and I felt inspired to comment again. You are such a Pioneer to me in the world of children with disabilities. It is such an important topic. Educating people the way you do is awesome. Grandma Honey–as for your question no this arm will not be adjusted before getting a new one. Well at least thats the plan. If it wasn't working for her or something was bothering her we'd definitely adjust it. But barring any unforeseen events she will hopefully have this arm at least a year without adjustments before getting a new one.
Thank you so much for sharing Lamp and her magic arm with us! The fabric is such a sweet touch. As a mom to a special needs young adult son, I really appreciate your openness. You are helping to pave the way to more acceptance of people with differences! What does Lamp seem to think about her magic arm? I just want to cuddle her after seeing that sad picture of when she fell forward. Poor sweetie.

I know it doesn't matter, but the first time I saw a picture of Lamp, I didn't even notice her limb differences. All I thought was, "what an adorable baby!" I really love all the pics you've been posting of her. She is SUCH and angel baby! Truthfully I'm a sucker for baby pics, I love looking at my own daughter's pics even when she is right next to me! Also, I think it really does make a difference in helping people get comfortable and see different disabilities as normal. Which is a great thing!ReplyCancel

My question is non-Lamp related, but I am wondering how you met your husband. I know you've mentioned an age difference before and I'm wondering how that has worked out for you, etc.
I don't really have a question… but I did want to say that I admire the way that you're honest about Lamp and her condition. I'm grateful too – not for me, but for any other families who find out that they are going to have babies with similar conditions.. and have somewhere to find things out, or to find someone to talk to that is going through the same stuff.
One of the wonders of the internet is the way that we can now connect with people in a way we never could before.

Hi! I live in Mesa, AZ. I went to college in San Antonio and I think you will grow to love it. Every place I have lived (including Yuma, AZ), I have fallen in love with. Get an annual pass to Sea World. It will pay for itself over and over again. It is SO much better than Sea World San Diego. And great for little ones.
I read about a high school junior from my area that was born without a left arm. He said he tried a prosthetic arm when he was in second grade and he hated it. They talked about how he plays first base on the JV team. He also played football and even caught a pass. He said his parents always told him if he could not do something the "normal" way, then figure out a way to do it. He is such an inspiration!
I do want to know about how Lamp's care will be in San Antonio. Have you found a doctor that will be good enough? Her therapies, will they be continued? How are the tube feedings going? Is Lamp sleeping better? Is she growing as expected? She is such a little beauty! So is her big sister. 🙂

Agreed. Food prices definitely seem to have gone up! We seem to be spending more and more money at the grocery store on the same stuff we always buy.
And YES, last night's office was a little too anti-climatic. Despite that, I MAY have shed a tear or two to see Michael leaving the Office. I'm curious to see how Will Farrell will do as the new boss. I love some of the stuff Will Farrell has done but I don't love his character in the Office. He's just weird…and the NAME they gave his character is just WEIRD.

Yes, food prices have gone up. There was an article about it on CNN's website a few weeks ago. Awesome. Gas up. Food up. Everything up.
I just got into couponing this year and despite the rising cost of everything, I'm definitely saving money on our grocery bill. My favorite blogs are Freebies2Deals, and a new one I just found called Livingwellspendingless.com (and the coupon match-up site savingwellspendingless.com). The author of that one has a couponing 101 ebook that I think explains saving better than any other site out there and she occassionally does vidoes called "extreme couponing for normal people" that I have found helpful.

I have never tried coupons because the bulk of my groceries are fresh and most everything else we have specific brands we like……or I'm just too lazy? But, I just spent obscene amounts of money for 5 days of meals. Simple meals that I already had some ingredients for. I can't imagine feeding a large family right now! Can't wait to have my own veggies in the garden!

The answer to both is YES! Food prices are definitely going up in direct correlation to the fuel prices, and last night's OFFICE just mad me sad. Glad that Pam at least made it to the airport or I'd have been really depressed. Have no fear regarding Will Farrell. He will not be on the OFFICE for much longer. They plan to change managers a few times before introducing the real new manager.

Groceries are so expensive I just stopped looking at my bill. Counterintuitive, I know. I just don't want to stress over something I can't control. I figure if I go to Bravo instead of Gristedes, I've done what I can do.

I feel like food prices have drastically increased lately. Milk and meat are killing us. I am totally into couponing right now. I love the sites: hip2save.com and thekrazycouponlady.com. They both match up the sales at all the nationwide chains. I make it simple for myself and just do the deals that they work out for their readers. I feel like it has saved me a lot of money… mostly in toiletries, but also some in regular groceries.

Food prices are definitely on the rise. Forget the stock market, I think food storage will probably be one of the best investments you can make right now (seriously). I'm not organized enough to do much couponing, so mostly I just try to watch the sale ads and stock up when stuff goes on sale.

Is there a bountifulbaskets.org site near you? It's a fruit and veggies co-op where you get lots of healthy food for less. The rising cost of produce is due to gas prices (shipping costs more) and because there have been lots of crop freezes and other types of crop failures world-wide that affect the supply.
