This was a WONDERFUL post! I love your paintings. 🙂

At one point in my young life (junior high), I considered myself an "artist". (I actually won Art Student of the Year for my grade in junior high! Let me tell you, it was thrilling!) Yet, I had too many activities in my life and wasn't able to keep up with it. I did some pieces that were actually pretty good, but my "career" ended after ninth grade. (One of my favorites was a white-penciled portrait of Albert Einstein on black mat board that used to hang in our bathroom! I found it completely hilarious for a person to be taking care of business while Albert was staring into their soul!)

At any rate, I feel that you are a TRUE artist – in more ways than one. Keep up the great work, because this world needs all of the beauty that comes from an artist's mind!

P.S. Another reason I gave up "my" art is because I was WAY too perfectionistic. It would take me weeks to finish a piece. Even when I finished, I couldn't stand looking at it because I would see all of the places I messed up on, or could have done better. I've wondered if now I would be a better "artist" – because I've learned to let go, and not be so perfectionistic? I don't know. I'm hoping that one day I will try creating something again!ReplyCancel

I used to send letters to a boy on a mission I dreamed would become my guy someday. In an effort to stand out from the many other girls who I knew wrote him, I decided to put a bunch of fall leaves from a hike I went on into his letter. By the next day an awful rash had spread over my body and begun to blister. At the end of the week, the doctor told me I had the worst case of poision ivy he'd every seen. And I'd sent it, priority mail, to my dream guy. Not only did he get poison ivy, but his companion also did. And since they were in Paraguay, where there was no poison ivy, the doctors tried all sorts of crazy medicine to help them get better. My letter explaining the poison ivy got lost on the way and showed up 4 months after the fact. Needless to say, we did not get married. And this is one of my less embarrasing stories.ReplyCancel

Wow, love those, Miggy! I can totally relate to the feeling of not always being excited about starting a new artistic endeavor. Then when you throw yourself into it, it's like, "Yay! The ideas are coming. Hey, I really am enjoying doing this!" At least that is how it often is for me. I am so glad that you enjoyed your time. What a hubby.

I am just curious. Do you go in a room and shut the door and paint? Do you paint out with the family, but your hubby remains in charge of your girls' wants and needs? Do you hafta cook during art-a-thons? Gasp! Here's hoping not! Ha! I was just curious.

Linda P. well in Cincinnati I had an actual room that was a closed off studio space. Here it's partitioned off with a wall of shelves, but not a space I can actually close a door to. It's not ideal, but it works. And B did a great job of keeping the girls occupied and out of my hair so I could work.

Laura–That's crazy! I lived in Gering during my childhood. Not many people are familiar with the greater Scottsbluff/Gering area.
