Do: Clean Your Stainless

I know cleaning tips aren’t my usual jam (or are they?) but I am definitely the type of person who derives pleasure from seeing a dirty surface become clean. Think picking cradle cap, popping zits, cleaning ears, scrubbing the ring out of a tub, power washing videos online… all that stuff is deeply satisfying for me. And don’t even act grossed out. But I could NOT get my stainless steel teapot clean for the life of me. I tried baking soda, toothpaste, lemon juice, dish soap, vinegar… all the usual suspects. As far as the teapot goes, things were looking bleak.

Caked on grease from years of sitting next to other pots and pans (none of which are stainless, but either cast iron or enamel) on the stove had left a sticky, impenetrable patina. Or so I thought.  I finally had enough and googled until I found the right solution.

Baking soda + Hydrogen Peroxide
Jackpot!

I simply formed a paste with baking soda and hydrogen peroxide and coated my little tea pot and then let it sit for about 10 minutes. Then I gave a little scrub, scrub, scrub and ta-da!

So shiny you can awkwardly see me taking an after photo in my workout clothes.
Apparently you can also soak a pot in vinegar and then heat it up on the stove and let it boil and then add baking soda, but since I can’t boil the outside of this teapot hydrogen peroxide was the magic ingredient for this job.
Happy stainless cleaning.
