The Doc Is In || How To Throw a Doc McStuffins Themed Party

Party recap time. Being that this was Lamp’s first birthday party, I can’t tell you how happy and grateful I was to plan this party for my big girl and her special day. Although I’m not one to want a charater themed party, the birthday girl gets what the birthday girl wants and this time it was a Doc McStuffins themed party. Since a lot of Lamp’s friends are in the 2-year-old age range, we kept it simple and geared toward activities the kids could do individually or together.  There were also a few older kids and I think they still had a great time. For those of you unfamiliar with Doc McStuffins, it’s a show on Disney about a little girl who is a Doctor to her toys. When they come to her with their ailments she gives them check-ups, diagnoses them and then fixes them up. So we invited each guest to bring their favorite toy or stuffed animal to give them a check up!

First, let me share some of the party favor and decoration details. One of the first favors I thought of was making one of Doc’s famous Big Book of Boo-Boo’s for each kid. I also found some inexpensive toy Dr. kits online (similar here–but the ones I got were cheaper!) and cute-ed them up with some sparkly heart stickers I had leftover from the Big Book of Boo-Boo’s craft. We placed each Dr. kit inside a zip lock bag and then placed each baggy inside a canvas bag which was their very own Dr. bag!  Also included in the bag was the Big Book of Boo-Boo’s and an itemized check-up list (found on Disney.com) so the kids and their parents could guide them through a check up.

Instead of plastering Doc’s face everywhere, I choose to focus on other Doc elements like the colors pink and purple, sparkly hearts and band-aids.  I found these adorable Doc McStuffins favor boxes and band aid stickers on etsy.  I put the stickers in the box along with some heart jelly beans and called it good.  I kept the cake and cupcakes simple as well by utilizing more glittery heart stickers and purple paper.  Lamp wanted a chocolate cake and then we just put a Doc toy (one of her presents actually) on the cake for decoration.

There were two main activities, the first one being that the kids got to decorate their own Dr. bags.  We had a table set up with fabric markers where they could decorate and personalize their bags.  Again, easy for even little kiddos to do and since I moved our white couch to our bedroom for the event, I wasn’t too worried about having the markers around.

Then we had a clinic set up for the kids to bring their toys and give them a check-up.  Two doll beds, a cup of  band-aids, gauze bandages, tongue depressors, and stickers to give their patients when the check-up was finished.  Personally, I think the clinic was the big hit!  Some of the kids decorated their bags first, while others went straight to the clinic–which is what I was hoping for.  It split the kids up a little and that way everyone was spread out pretty well.  We also had a couple of kids tables near the clinic with some coloring pages set out so the kids could just go and color–something a lot of kids did when they first got there.

And of course, of course, the piñata. After her sisters’ amazing unicorn there was no way this girl was going to have a party without a piñata. We convinced her that she should have a Chilly piñata–Chilly being one of Doc’s friends. A snowman was by far the easiest character to imitate. Even so, B got this guy right down to the smallest detail. That man of mine is something else. I think she liked it.

By far, the best part of her party was just seeing our big girl smile from ear to ear. She was so excited to have so many friends come over and celebrate her birthday with her. Sometimes kids can get a little pouty on these days when there’s so much attention, food and fun–but she was a great hostess, thanked all her friends for coming and truly enjoyed and basked in her birthday glory.
