Have you all been catching Olympic fever this week too? We watched the opening ceremonies Friday night and have watched (are watching as we speak) several of the events. What is it about this every four years world-wide showdown that gets us going? Personally I think there is an exciting camaraderie just knowing the whole world is involved.
And for the first time I can say I’m super excited to tune into the Paralympics. I dare you to watch this video and not feel the same way. (Thanks to reader Mallory for sharing this video). My reaction to watching this video was a mixture of wanting to cry and simultaneously fist pump with a That’s what I’m talking about! I feel like our family has a special tie to these amazing athletes and it makes me feel proud. I love feeling like these are our people.
Also, I’m super excited to see Oscar Pistorius, the first double amputee ever to compete in the regular olympics! I know this decision has been a little controversial, but the advantages and disadvantages were scruitinized and judged by the appropriate people so I just hope that he is embraced with love, acceptance and respect during these games. He deserves it. Anyone who qualifies for the Olympics is a super-human in my book.
Our family has some major Olympic fever going on, too!! We watched the opening ceremonies and several events over the weekend. My 2 girls are 'gymnasts', so of course that was a big event for us – we've been following Gabby and Jordyn through the trials and were so sad that Jordyn didn't make it for the all-around.
Thanks for sharing this video. I'm fist pumping right along with you!! 🙂
I'm really looking forward to watching the paralympics, as well, but I can't figure out where I can watch it. I live in the same state as you, so what station do you watch it on? Or the internet? I'm not sure!
Also, I really love the video! 🙂
I saw this ad on Australian tv at the end of the sports segment on the news and thought it was just brilliant. I'm glad you posted it here as I really wanted to watch it again. It's so inspiring. I only wish that the Paralympics got the same air time on tv as the Olympics. By the way, your blog rocks.
Love this. Thanks for sharing!
Made me cry… Inspiring isn't a strong enough word. I loved it.
Thanks for posting this video! I am looking forward to watching the Paralympics, too! They are truely "superhumans"! I just posted the video to my Facebook page to spread the word!

I LOVE the "super" prefix in this context. I'd decided a while back that when Ulysses gets his prostheses, we'll call them his "superlegs". superhumans, indeed!
