Exploring San Antonio: The Missions

Yes, more exploring San Antonio.  I know, we’re on fi-ya!  A couple weeks ago we ended up going to the Mission San Jose.  The biggest in North America!  It was beautiful.  And I would say fascinating but the tour ended up being a snooze-fest and after trying to corral 2 wild chillin’s for an hour we gave up and broke away from the pack.   Still the grounds were lovely and the pictures are nice, no?

Even though we were inside a very echo-y church and I was trying to keep my kidlets quiet, I secretly love when they’re being mischievous little rascals.  Look at those two cuties breakin’ the law.
I hope these little posts on our San Antonio explorations are somewhat enjoyable.  My family didn’t do that much local exploring growing up, and to this day people will ask me if I ever did this or that around Denver and I’m surprised how often the answer is no.  I’m a big fan of getting out and exploring your city.  Especially since I’ve lived in a lot of different places in the US (Utah, Colorado, Nebraska, Hawaii, New York City, Ohio and now Texas).   I have to say exploring your surroundings is one of the best ways I have found to feel connected to wherever you’re currently calling home.  It’s also helped me feel at ease that when we’re finally free to settle down on our own in 2 years, that no matter where we end up, we’ll be able to find a way to love it.  It’s worked wonders for our feelings about San Antonio!
What about you?  Are you a fan of getting out and exploring your surroundings?  Even if you’ve lived somewhere a really long time?  Or are you a creature of habit and stick with what you know?

Design mom has been running a Love the Place You Live series asking readers to share their local explorations…you might even find your city listed on there.  Check it out here, here, and here.
