My Books!

My first children’s book, When Charley Met Emma, came out in March 2019. It is a 2019 Gold Medal Moonbeam award winner as well as a 2019 INDIE Bronze Medal winner.

My second Charley + Emma story, Awesomely Emma, came out September 15, 2020. You can read here about the process of writing my first book here. You can also read all my tips for getting a children’s book published here.

When Charley goes to the playground and sees Emma, a girl with limb differences who gets around in a wheelchair, he doesn’t know how to react at first. But after he and Emma start talking, he learns that different isn’t bad, sad, or strange–different is just different, and different is great!

This delightful book will help kids think about disability, kindness, and how to behave when they meet someone who is different from them.

Emma has limb differences, but different isn’t bad, sad, or strange. It’s just different! But when some accessibility problems get in the way at the local art museum, it ruins the fun of a class trip…and then Emma’s friend Charley makes things even worse! In the middle of a really bad day, Emma has to call upon her sense of inner awesome to stand up for herself and teach everyone a lesson about the transformative power of feeling awesome in your own skin.

Amy Webb’s follow-up to When Charley Met Emma, Awesomely Emma will have all kids cheering as they learn to see the inner awesome in themselves and those around them.

Testimonials!

"When Charley Met Emma invites its young readers into an honest, disarming story about encountering difference. This book will play a rare and vital role as we teach our children to build more inclusive spaces where all of us are seen, valued, and celebrated for the difference we bring to it."

"As a parent of a child with special needs, I know how important this book is for our community. What we need right now is more awareness, empathy and true compassion; and this book has become a beautiful resource to help families talk about these important values when they matter most."

Schedule an author visit!

I absolutely love going to schools and classrooms as a visiting author.
I am currently open for Zoom/Skype presentations (they have been fantastic!) and in person depending on current health protocols.
My rates are as follows (and subject to change):

One 45 minute presentation for $250
Two 45 minute presentations for $400
All day (3-4 presentations) for $700

In addition to reading one or both of my boooks, I also do a Q+A with students and if in person, a book signing. If you live in the Cincinnati, Ohio area I am happy to do in-person visits if/when your schools will allow for in-person visits again. I am always excited
and willing to travel for school visits further away and out of state, but of course, travel expenses must be covered by the school.

If you'd like to schedule a Zoom author visit or an in person visit, please fill out the form below.

What They're Saying!

"Welcoming author Amy Webb to Mason Elementary was an incredible opportunity for our learners and staff.
Amy Webb definitely embraces her strength as a mother, writer, and advocate for differently-abled learners. Her books not only create a space where readers can identify with characters in various ways, but they also provide a valuable platform for discussions on how to speak up about human differences. In a charming and relatable way, Amy’s stories educate readers about differences and also reinforce the message that when we better understand someone's identity, we can build empathy and connection.

During the author visit Amy provided an authentic space where students could engage in wonderings, this opportunity to ask questions without judgement was a beautiful gift that allowed them to truly build empathy for others. Amy’s books are awesome, and a visit from her strongly reinforces her beautiful and important message."

"We hosted Amy Webb as our first virtual author visit and it couldn’t have been better! She went above and beyond to fit our needs; we are actually an elementary school on a US Army base in Germany, so she was awake and presenting at very unusual hours. She maintained enthusiasm and engaged each class in a way that made a lasting impression. Our students loved learning from her; from gaining better awareness about people with disabilities to discovering “Easter eggs” in her books.
Not only did she help our students learn more, but also our teachers. Our teachers appreciated having a discussion and book related to a child with disabilities that they wouldn’t typically have as part of their lesson plans. Her visit will have continual effects since our teachers now have the tools to continue the discussion.

I highly recommend working with Ms. Webb to have her speak to your school. She presented to each of our grade levels and made each session more nuanced to fit the ages in the different grades. She is warm, flexible, and understanding. "
