  Goodmom42–Thank you. Of course the Skunk is from the Children's place forever ago…just to be clear. And while I don't make their costumes every year, it's really great when my creative side and motherhood collide. Sometimes I feel like I'm lacking in so many other areas–as we all do I'm sure–so even though it's not the most important thing ever, making a cool Halloween costume from time to time is one of the ways I tell my kids I love them. It may not be someone else's thing, but I guarantee that mom "nails it" in areas I don't. Anyway…thanks again. ReplyCancel

I might be jaded, but when I see families with coordinating costumes, I assume the kids were coerced. Picking out and executing the costume is 95% the fun of Halloween! I can't imagine that many kids would willingly forgo that part to play along with a cutesy idea their mom had. I'm willing to eat my hat on this one, if I were to learn that some families or siblings sincerely do enjoy coordinating costume ideas, but my kids would never ever go for that, and I wouldn't want them to!

your girls are adorable. that mermaid costume is first rate. I imagine it will get a lot of dress-up play mileage, too. so fun!

Another amazing mother. Chelsea, you are my new hero. Bridger is a real cutie pie. And a quick story for you Miggy. When my oldest daughter was 3 or 4 (she's now 34), she told everyone who would listen that she wanted to be a "dog trainer" for Halloween. Like you, I always made my kids' costumes, but I was stumped about this one. What does a dog trainer wear? I kept asking her. She kept saying, you know, Mommy, like at the fair. I couldn't remember seeing a dog trainer at the fair we had recently gone to. Finally, after weeks and weeks of grilling her (and trying to get her to pick another costume idea), her brother (aged 8) said, I think she means those girls with the pink skirts with a poodle on them and a ponytail. It turns out she thought that girls she had seen at the fair dressed up as 1950s girls were dog trainers! I still laugh when I see a little girl in that costume.ReplyCancel

Hey Miggy, I just saw these on Pinterest and I thought they might be good for Lamp. Ugg makes tiny moccasins and boots that she could probably get on by herself too, but they're pretty expensive. Just a suggestion!!

What a fun little guy! I wish there was some sort of thing, like a certain color ribbon, that parents with kids with special needs could tie on the stroller so that people knew it was ok to approach. Some people just don't want to explain stuff AGAIN…and some, like Chelsea, might like to connect. As a pediatric PT I'm always on the fence–I genuinely enjoy almost all kids, and would love to say hi and offer to carry a bag or something in an airport…but I always hesitate.ReplyCancel
