Great tips! That mousse looks great! I'm on a similar fitness and health kick as you are right now. Mine was inspired by my 35th birthday. Sugar is my thing too, so what I decided was that I would have my favorite thing (which happens to be FroYo!) 12 times a year–ideally once a month. So far it's totally working, and I'm actually amazed. Before this rule I was just having sugar whenever I pleased, and that was a lot–and not always things that were worth it–for example, I would have cookies or candy–neither of which I really love, but I would have them just to have sugar. When I want something sugary, I find a Larabar, fruit, or something with dates to usually do the trick.
Have you tried banana "nice" cream? You just cut up chunks of (peeled) banana and freeze it in a ziplock bag for a few hours. In fact, it's a good idea to keep a bag of frozen banana chunks in the freezer to always have on hand when a craving strikes!
Then when you are craving a bowl of creamy ice cream, simply blend the frozen bananas, a few dates, a splash of vanilla and almond milk. You can also add in cocoa powder to make chocolate "nice" cream.
I love this treat so much and it totally fulfills any ice cream craving that I may have! Plus it is so fun to add healthy toppings like fresh fruit, nuts, etc.
You can also make a healthy "magic shell" topping to drizzle on top of the banana "nice" cream by mixing cocoa powder, maple syrup and coconut oil. It hardens instantly when drizzled on top!
I've been trying to reduce processed sugar (and animal products) from my diet and finding healthier sweet treats has been helpful for me. Good luck!
I just made the chocolate mousse. I doubled the cocoa powder and dates and just used the whole can of coconut milk. I skipped the vanilla because I think it takes over the taste of desserts. I blended everything in a nutribullet that a friend just gave me the other day. It turned out great. I dipped strawberries in it and we just had them. Thank you!!! (This is Mel in Fort Collins.
