I have been reading Ruth's blog for some time and I think that she handles her situation with such grace. My BIL works with her husband and has just the nicest things to say about him and his family. That Davy girl is just a doll.

I've had the honor of working with Davy the past 18 months on her language development. She is truly a fighter. I can still see the excitement in her face as she ran towards me on our last speech therapy visit. Ruth is very inspirational and she is the reason why I have started a blog. About a month before I was to leave for college, a young man from my part of the country (Boston-area) that had just finished his freshman year at the college I was going to attend (in Texas) told me what an awful place this college was for "us". I was devastated! My dad gave me some really good advice….you made a decision, follow through and if you don't like it, then at least you can say you tried. I went and fell in love! It was not perfect and I certainly had "issues", but it was a great experience. I would say to my younger self that I should stand tall, listen more and don't sweat the small stuff. What others think of me is NOT important. Trust that little voice inside and follow your convictions. Everyone we meet, no matter how annoying, can teach us something. Be kind to everyone, even those that are not nice to you. The world doesn't revolve around you and when we put others first, we will always come out ahead. Good Luck to your gorgeous cousin! I have to admit, I have stopped reading some blogs when they went too commercial. Not because they were getting paid for ads, or even did the occasional compensated review. It was when they would be doing product reviews, what seemed like every other post. It was when they were going on paid trips and blogging about it the other half of the posts. There is nothing wrong with that but when I was reading a blog about redoing things in your home or crafts and the blog suddenly became a paid advertisement with a few posts about crafts/redecorating, that is when I was lost.
I say do it but stay true to the reason you have been blogging in the first place.
Side bar ads do not bother me – you will either click on them or you won't. Paid reviews do not bother me, if they do not become the whole focus.
Thanks you guys! Seriously, I appreciate all the support and even advice.
I do want to take a moment to clarify something. I may have made it sound big time, but it's not. It's small time. This is not a huge money making endeavor. It's a tip jar on the counter of the ice cream place where you wonder if they actually make enough in tips to pay for the gas to get too and from work. I'm not saying I'm not open to bigger prospects, but that is not the case right now. While the work I put into the blog is akin to a part time job, the pay will not match that. AND I'm really not looking for a more full time opportunity. I have no desire to push this blog in the direction of some of my favorite and most admired bloggers. I LOVE what they do and am so glad it lets them run a business from home. Right now I have no desire to up the work load–which is what it would take.

I have to agree that too many product reviews are annoying. I would hate that pressure as a blogger because what if I really don't like the product? I remember a friend of mine bragging over this all natural laundry soap stuff a long time ago. I bought it and it sucked. Cute packaging though!
Do you read soulemama or cakies? I have always admired how they run their sponsors and ads. Everything they promote is SO them and their lifestyle. Nothing conflicts. I know bloggers (that I know you know as well) that have sold out a bit if you want my honest opinion. Some start writing for other blogs and it seems they are forced to write or advertise things that really aren't them… it seems unnatural and I have not been so interested in their blogs anymore..
The sidebar ads are risky in my opinion. How much say do you really have? I will never forget one time a while ago when I was on nienie's blog and there was a sidebar ad for some processed meat product. She is a VEGETARIAN! I remember cjane having some dump alien movie ad on her site for like a weeks — that moms vs. aliens or something. I would HATE that.
Just be choosy and stay true to you more than anything. I don't doubt that it will all be fine and dandy! I would put money in your tip jar 🙂

I have six kids so maybe this is a little different but I only let them have a friend party every other year. On the even years. I don't want them getting too spoiled and I don't want to tax our friends with obligations to buy gifts and I want to simplfy my crazy life. It has worked great! Five was hard for me too this year. If I could go back in time to redo anything, it would be to just have one more day of my daughter as a baby, or even as a two year old. Those days were so drenched in worry that I don't think I enjoyed it like I would today.

Wonderful…. simply wonderful!I She is absolutely the best, like her Mother. (I fondly remember another robust little soul who along with her brother blazed a path that often left their mother simply choking on their dust… And guess what, I still feel that way almost every single day!) So beautifully said, Miggy! I can relate on so many levels. It's so great to hear someone else admit to feeling like your life was over during those first few weeks and months of constant crying and never sleeping. It's a good thing in a way to have had such a rough start because it really makes you appreciate how magical it is to actually ENJOY your child. Darn near miraculous.
It's so hard to put into words this idea of "I can't believe my baby is…" You've done a nice job. I enjoyed this post for it's honest and real-ness. Motherhood is a joy, but sometimes it's a process to realize that. For what it's worth, I can't believe PSP is 5 either. I had some very similar tough early days with my now two-year-old and I also think part of the reason I cherish her so much now and feel so irreversibly bonded is because of how much it felt like hell at first. My exciting news is that at the end of this month I get to go on a little art retreat weekend about an hour and a half away. I have read about these in various artsy craftsy blogs, and now there is actually one close enough for me to go to. Sooooo psyched!!!
I may be totally whacked out, but I just must say that when I saw The Artist(movie) several weeks ago, I couldn't help but think that the Peppy Miller character looked like you! In my defense, I have seen you only through pics on your blog, so I may be totally off track here. Tell me though, has anyone else said this to you?
I do! Have good news that is. One of my really good friends is moving to San Antonio! And soon 🙂 You'll have to take care of her for me.
