I was really inspired by this article about Beck and friends recording a full album in one day. 24 hours! Impressive. I have always loved the idea that setting limits–whether time, medium, color, or theme–is a great way to jump start our creative juices and helps us see what we’re capable of. In life and in art I think most of us do better when given limits and guidelines. But what I love MOST about this particular 24 hour time line limit is that it eliminates the excuses. And I have had many excuses when it comes to painting. I don’t have space, now I have a studio but I’m pregnant, now I’m not but I don’t have time…. enough.
Therefore I’m proposing a 24 hour art-a-thon. Whaddya say? You in? Whether anyone joins me or not, I’m doing this. Here’s how it will work… you have 24 hours to create and complete a specified amount of work {painting, sewing, quilting, photography, sculpture, songwriting, etc.} I’m going to commit myself to 3 completed paintings {and up to 5 if I have time} in 24 hours. I’m also going to stick to a theme, but will leave that private for now. I don’t have a date yet, and I have to get supplies prepped and ready, but I’m thinking with in the next 2 weeks. A Saturday. Who’s in?
I’m excited.
I'm so in! Love that idea. Now, what should I do? Hmm…
Yay! I'm so in! My project is piper's halloween costume. I'm making everything including shoes. I love this idea because I will have it done quickly! I just need to buy supplies and I'm so in!
I'm so in! supplies will be attained, as well as an idea for a project! let's make it happen!
I'm so in! I don't know when mine will be considering my husband starts his SATURDAY classes very soon. But I will tell him that I want to do this. I guess the 24 hours doesn't have to be during the daylight, right? Maybe my husband can stay home one morning while I sleep in from having a all night art-a-thon.
This is a great idea.
One of my excuses is that I want a friend to do things with and I don't have one of those close enough to me. I need to be my own art friend.
Ooh, I already have some projects in mind. What a great idea!
Yay!! I'm so stoked everyone is so excited for this. I hope ya'll will be willing to share photos of completed work. {Samantha–so glad to have you…didn't even know you had a blog!}
Likely–yes that's one of the more difficult aspects if you have kids–getting a Sat. where the husband can be on kid duty for a full 24 hrs. Because of that I'm thinking that I'll actually start Fri. evening and go until Sat. evening–so it will be most of Sat. day, but I'd rather end on Sat. evening than Sun. morning.
This is awesome…keep 'em coming and I'll be sure to post the date soon! {I sorta had it in mind that we'd all do the same Saturday… Or at least most of us will do the same Sat.}
i'm in. mine may be a day of completing dozens of half-done projects. this is brilliance.
I'm so IN!!!!!! But I need someone to tell me what to do.
I want to sew something. Someone tell me what…
??
I'm in! What a great way to get my butt in gear. Thanks for the idea!
I'll give it whirl! We just moved so I have tons of projects I want to get done and have a very easy time finding excuses.
In! You name the day!
I'm so, totally, almost in!! I don't do well on little sleep but I LOVE this idea. I'd like to do it but….well, you know me (sort of) I"ll try!
I'm with Likely….I need a friend! I can't WAIT to see your artwork though!
Well—-I think that I may be able to do it—-I need a reason to start painting and this might inspire me!! But I am directing a play now, and have rehearsals every Friday night and Saturdays—-but I will give it my best!!!
