Miggy’s Favorite Things Lately III

Hi! I started a new series called Miggy’s Favorite Things Lately where I share some things I’m loving as of late. Namely, something to wear, something to read, something to watch and something to eat. You can see the one and two here. Enjoy! I’d love to hear some of your favorites in the comments.

wear: Roller Lash by Benefit. I used to be a drug store mascara girl, but after having lash-envy for a good year or two but not wanting to do anything drastic like lash serum or extensions I decided to invest in better mascara and wowee has this stuff paid off! Most days I don’t even use an eyelash curler as this really does curl your lashes. The coverage is great as well–a couple of coats and I’m good to go. It’s my new make-up must have.

read: The Magnolia Story.  Before this book I had seen the occasional Fixer Upper and yes I thought Chip and Jo seemed like nice people, but I wasn’t a huge fan or anything. I’m not super crazy about ship lap and while Joanna does her style well, it’s usually not my style–so again, they seemed cool, but I wasn’t ordering any Joanna Gains is my Spirit Animal mugs on etsy. So I’m not sure why I decide to read (actually listen) to the book, but in general I like memoirs and the bits and pieces of their story I had heard intrigued me. Here’s the deal: I loved it. And now I love them. Listening to their story reminds me of Oprah’s definition of luck: Luck is when preparation meets opportunity. Yes the Gain’s got a very lucky break with their show, but it would have never happened without years and years of preparation. Their success has been hard won with many risks, miracles, and really, really hard work. I made my husband listen to it as well and we’ve been discussing it for the past couple of days. Maybe Joanna Gains is my spirit animal after all.

watch: Master of None. I know, I know I’m a little behind the times on this show but I’m really glad I watched it. Thoughtful, smart, funny and full of style. With only 2 seasons and about 10 half-hour episodes a season, this is one of those shows you can start and finish without putting your entire life on hold while you binge watch every night for 3 months. I will say that occasionally it was a little crude for my taste (you can filter through VidAngel), but overall it’s a great show. Especially season 2. Man, that one got me.

eat: Bran muffins via Mel’s Kitchen Cafe. I’ve honestly never made a bran muffin before I tried these, but now I’m hooked. The whole family is hooked. The recipe is yields a lot of muffins–which is great! I make about half of the recipe at a time and store all the muffins in the freezer and then pop them into the microwave for 30 seconds for a quick snack or breakfast on the go. The rest of the batter I keep in the fridge covered, and make the a second batch later and once again store the majority in the freezer. I’m not much of a cereal girl, and so having a new quick, filling and healthy breakfast option is a bonus. ( I usually eat with some fruit or a yogurt drink on the go). Another bonus? My kids love them too. And if we’re being honest, can’t we all use a little more bran in our diet?

I’d love to hear anything you’ve been enjoying lately!
