Happy Friday

Last night we took a family outing (minus baby) to see A Christmas Carol. It was a last minute decision to go as I wasn’t feeling very well and I wasn’t sure about going on a school night, but the stars aligned and we went. About 30 minutes into the show there was a large CRACK-ing sound on the stage–it wasn’t immediately apparent that this was not a part of the play, but suddenly the sound manager came on and stopped the play and asked all the actors to leave the stage. Turns out a part of the stage broke while they were changing scenes. So they stopped everything and repaired the stage for about 30 minutes. It was all very exciting! Especially for these two hooligans who had extra time to go up and down the stairs, explore the bathrooms (the bathroom is so big mom, it’s like a maze!), and meet new friends. For a minute I was worried that this snafu would overshadow the rest of the play, but it didn’t. I can honestly say that was my favorite live viewing of a Christmas Carol ever. So well done. Even though we didn’t get home until 10:30, it was worth it. I always get misty eyed seeing Scrooge’s transformation and am reminded of the fact that it’s never too late to change. If you’re a Cincinnati local I highly recommend Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park‘s a Christmas Carol.

As promised I really do have some great spotlights coming up, but sometimes things happen and life gets a little crazy…so stay tuned! But today here are a couple links to somethings special needs related  that caught my eyes.

Designer denim for wheelchair users. Such a great idea and one of those, why-didn’t-someone-think-of-this-before things?

Speaking of wheelchairs did you read about the uproar over a recent photoshoot for Interview magazine involving a wheelchair and one member of a particularly famous family? (For the record I agree that the shoot was deeply disturbing and that an apology would be appropriate.)

A lesson that I learn again and again about extending kindness because you really just never know.

Not special needs related, but this German commercial had me bawling.

Have a great weekend!
