I’m so excited you guys, the blog is finally getting a professional makeover. Yay! I started working with a designer to bring some polish to this little blog of mine and the process has been really fun. So far I’ve designed every header myself and even though I use a simple blogger template I’ve handled all the technical issues and changes on the back end myself as well. And frankly I’m not that good! There are so many things I’d like to have on the blog that I just don’t know how to do, not to mention the perks of working with someone who has experience and a professional eye.
So I’m a little hesitant to address this issue as I don’t feel I necessarily need to explain myself–it’s my blog after all and I can handle it or not handle it as I please. However, a blog overhaul begs the question, why? I know I’ve been a devoted reader to some blogs that start to change and “go corporate” as I say, and admittedly I feel like the blog I loved in the beginning is no longer the blog I still love. Also, it must be said that there are some blogs that have gone corporate while still maintaining the original vibe I loved in the first place–and good for them! What I want to say is that I have no plans to change the integrity of the blog as it now stands. It will still be me. I am the writer, photographer, thinker, DIY’r, spotlighter, etc. A guest post here and there might happen, but we’ll see. Am I trying to grow the blog? In as much as I stay true to myself, I’d love to have more readers and breadth. One reason is because I really do believe in the spotlight and the education and enlightenment it has brought to me and those of you who currently read. I consider myself an advocate for those with special needs and if I can do anything to elevate that platform I’m going to do so. And yes, partially because I put in a lot of time and effort on here and any extra compensation would be a bonus. This is really like a part-time job for me. I already have ads, I occasionally do a sponsored post and that won’t change. One thing I do plan on doing more of and focusing more on is my art and creative side. I love to paint and create. Outside of my family, that is my main passion. So you can look for more of that (hopefully) in the months to come. (Of course then we’ll have a new baby and it will probably all go away again…so it goes).
Overall the process has been really fun. It’s been exciting to work with someone who does this professionally and I dig the back and forth process of creating something together.
As always, thanks for your love and support for this little blog of mine.
It has always been a labor of love and I’m excited to continue that work.
Hugs,
Migs
I've been reading here for a couple years and I think after you put as much time and effort into it as you have (we know how much extra time it takes to organize your spotlights!) a little "corporate" is expected. How else can you justify the time, even if you love it. What I'm saying is that as readers we see and understand that and want this to be something you enjoy but also something that makes sense for your family! Xoxo and new baby?! I can't wait!
I say go for it! You definitely deserve a little compensation for your time. Your blog is one of my favorites. Keep up the good work!
I love your blog. In fact, I have become friends with one of the great families you spot lighted. She is one of the very few blogs I read. I made a few comments here and there, we exchanged email addresses and a friendship began. They rock as a family and have taken a tragic accident and dealt with it in such a dignified and loving way. So many blogs are a forum for bragging, not yours or hers. You tell the good with the hard. It just feels good to read your blog. I say if it will benefit your family then you can't go wrong. I can't wait to see more of your art. I have great ideas, but very little artistic ability. I keep trying though, sometimes with great results and sometimes, not so much. I love your DIY. Breaks it down into manageable segments. Hopefully you will be able to continue after the baby arrives. I just kept my three month old grandson for a week. So fun! I am so tired though. How did I have the energy to raise four. Now I know why fifty two year olds don't typically get pregnant.
I think it's great that you've addressed these things head on. And I think it's great that you're expanding and growing this space. Thumbs up on all counts!
I am a pediatric resident at Cincinnati Children's and I read your blog regularly. I have learned so much from your spotlights, and am very happy to hear that you will be continuing to devote time, energy and insight into helping others have a glimpse into life with a child with unique needs–the good, the bad, the mundane–I love it all. It is so valuable!
Thank you!

Thanks for all the encouragement and support everyone! I'm excited to move forward with everything.
And Andrea, did you know that's where my husband did his residency? And where Lamp spent a good deal of her first year of life? We love Cincinnati Childrens!
Good for you. You deserve it! I hope it goes big time. You're such a great writer with great insight. Love it.
