Remember when I said we find out the gender soon? Well, we actually found out yesterday. We’ve never done anything particularly fun for the gender reveal so I really wanted to do a fun idea one of my friends told me about. I asked the Dr. not to tell us what it is but to write it down in an envelope. After the appointment I headed straight to Baby Gap where I picked out a couple girl items and a couple boy items. I then asked the cashier for her help. 🙂 I gave her my credit card, the envelope and the outfits and told her that we didn’t know the gender yet, but in a minute she would! Once she looked in the envelope I asked her to then ring up either the boy stuff or the girl stuff based on what it said and then to wrap it up really, really well so we could open the gift that night over dinner. I also reminded her to hide the other outfit so I wouldn’t see anything when I got back. She was so cute and excited to help. I then made myself scarce for a few minutes while she took care of business. I instagrammed the above photo asking, So what’s it gonna be? Purple polka dots or grey stripes? (You can follow me on instagram at thislittlemiggy)
It’s A….

Purple Polka dots! It’s another girl!
Yay! We love our girls! I have to say we were genuinely surprised–which is a first for us in the baby guessing game. We’ve always been right when it comes to our gut feeling, except this time. Of course we’re thrilled to be adding another precious girl and in a way I’m a little relieved. I know girls. We have girl clothes and girl toys and girl shows. That being said, we were both excited at the prospect of a little boy and the new dimension that would bring to our family. Especially B. He’s always dreamed of having a son. But honestly, he’s a great girl dad.
Huzzah for 3 girls!
I know a lot of families where the kids are a single gender and I’m not just talking about 2 kids–3 girls, 4 girls, 3 boys, 5 boys, 6 boys! I think there can be a lot of pro’s to the single gender families as well as families with a mix of boys a girls. Any single gender kid families out there? We’re you raised with just one gender? What are some of the pro’s and con’s?
Congratulations! That is awesome. We love our three girls. I came from a family with 7 girls (8 when we included our mom) and while there was a whole lot of crazy hormones in that house when we hit our teenage years, it was a lot of fun.
Thanks Malesa! Yes, I thought of you guys…I too really like the idea of having these 3 girlies. I didn't know you came from a family of 7 tho! Amazing and yes, I can imagine that hormones ran high. Good times.
Congrats! I'm the oldest of 3 girls! This is probably why my Dad always picked out male pets for our family to not feel left out as the only boy. 😉 I'm so happy for all 5 of you!
Haha…male pets. That's a great idea to keep the balance.
Thanks!
This is hilarious. I am the oldest of 3 girls too and we always had male pets!
Congratulations! I miss my girls being around. They can tell you if an outfit looks ok, what color things are, get excited about sewing projects, help in material stores, give opinions about where plants should be placed in the garden and much more. So excited for you!
Thanks Joan. It's funny because before I had kids I imagined having all boys…now that I have my girls I can't see it any other way.
Congratulations!!! So happy for your family, another sweet blessing! I only have an older brother, but we have a wonderful relationship. I am on the fence about the gender of this current baby (we find out in less than 2 weeks! EEK!), I think my son would love a brother, but also think a baby girl would bring a different dynamic to our (especially my) lives. Congratulations again!!!!
Emily,
Yes I know what you mean. When adding your second there seems to be a lot of pro's to same gender and a lot of pro's to opposite gender. Personally, I loved having the same gender back to back. That being said, I know a lot of mama's really want a girl around the house. Baby/toddler girl energy is usually quite different from baby/toddler boy energy. 🙂 Not that one is better than the other, but different. Good luck!
Congratulations!!! I was only lucky enough to have twin boys but have always yearned for a girl. There are many times I feel left out in my own house because all of the boys are doing boy things and I'm not necessarily into all of that. It would be so nice to have a girl to do girly things with. My sons don't want to go with me for pedicures…imagine that! 3 girls is such a blessing for you and B! Congrats again and enjoy!!!
Thanks Cindy! I imagine that could be difficult not having a girl to pal around with, but hopefully you'll have some great daughters-in-law someday. 🙂
I grew up with all sisters- there were 4 of us. It was the best. My dad had us mow the lawn, go on grueling camping trips with him, and took us to shoot clay pigeons with rifles. He doesn't feel like he missed out on a single thing. My mom was obviously a natural at raising girls and has always been a really great example of a strong woman in our lives. The thing I loved about my parents is that they never compared us to one another- they let us be who we are, and that has established a really wonderful bond between us. No competition, just love and support. I don't doubt it will be the same thing in your family. Congratulations to your beautiful growing family! I am thrilled for you!
I love hearing stories about families of sisters. Can't wait for B to see this comment–he mentioned almost everything you said specifically–ha! Even mowing the lawn. But I told him his girls could do all those things with him. So glad to hear your dad had you girls doing the dirty work right along with them. My girls LOVE doing things with their dad and always seem eager to get their hands dirty. And that's great advice about not comparing. Hopefully we can be as mindful as your parents.
I'm one of two girls. And someday, there will be boys for B…3 sons-in-law!
So far I love having 3 girls. We have so much fun. I imagine trips to Disneyland with them all dressed up as princesses. So cheesy, I know. I can just imagine what their teenage years will be like. However we do have our little boy coming in November so you never know. You might just get one yet.
Amazing! Congratulations! Matt comes from a family of NINE boys. Full disclosure: his parents were both divorced when they married each other, but they were 5 boys plus 3 boys, and then they had Matt- another boy! His mother loves us wives like she would her own daughters. And my first roommate in college came from a family of 4 girls. The blessing is the child, for sure. Not the gender.
So exciting! Congrats.
While I don't have any experience in a one gender world, I do sometimes long for the days when my life isn't filled with boy AND girl things. Think twice as many bins in the basement. Sure, there might be some cross-over and you probably have a few "boy" toys, but I am sure that your barbie toys will not find themselves being held captive in the toilet by the Hero Factory characters…
I had three sons. I decided that we would stop there. Gave everything away and we merrily went on our way. Well…….my youngest turned seven and I changed my mind. I was thirty six and I just wasn't ready to be done with babies. I wanted one more, so we got busy. Abigail rang in the new year on Dec 31 at 10:35 p.m. While I didn't have all one sex there was a pretty big gap between the boys and Abigail. The boys did most everything together, very, very close. This girl shook things up. My youngest son informed me that he would always be the baby boy. He still lays claim to that a twenty three. We really do have two babies of the family. We have been living in Saudi Arabia for the last five years with our daughter. Our boys are grown and living in the states. So while she was raised for a while with the boys she has also spent a great deal of time living like an only child. I do feel somewhat like I have raised two families. One made up of boys and one made up of an only girl. It's funny, when we go to the states to see the boys she falls right into the youngest only girl spot. One minute loving her brothers and the next wanting to be the only child. The boys hold their ground and remind her that there are four children in the family. Boys come with zero drama. They state there case and move on. Girls, oh boy! Crying life ending one minute, koom ba ya the next. I love how my family played out. All boys, all girls, or mixed? I would have been happy either way. As it turned out I kind of got to do all three. So, so happy for you!
Oh Donna–I've heard stories like this before, the ol' 'we thought we were done' and frankly they terrify me! Seeing how I'm already 36 I really don't want to be having any surprise babies in my 40's. Eek! But funny how you have the best of all worlds. Families are funny things aren't they?
I have 3 girls. (Ages 11, 9 and 5.) I wouldn't have it any other way. My husband has always wanted a boy someday too but if it doesn't happen for us it's really possible he'd get to be the grandfather of a boy someday. That's fun to think about.
So excited for you.
Bridget
Aw, I love hearing about these girly families…so exciting. And yes there are always sons'-in-law and grandchildren right?
Congratulations! Whenever I see a family of girls with another one on the way, I always secretly hope it'll be a girl. Because sisters are amazing!!! Well, mine are at least 🙂 This is very exciting, and I bet your girls are super excited to have another little one on the way to "mother" xo
So great to hear about sisters who love each other so much…I hope my girls grow up to be close friends–so far we're off to a great start. 🙂
I am the youngest among three girls at home and big sisters r amazing…my life is definitely a lot easier because of their direction and support…congratulations!
Congrats Miggy! I am the oldest of three "girls." We are now 56, 51, and 46. The very best thing about 3 sisters is the built-in best friends you have for life.
Best wishes,
Donna in Harwich, MA
Donna–this reminded me of my Grandma! She too was 1 of 3 sisters and even though they were really spread out (California, Nebraska and New Jersey) they were the best of friends all their lives. So fun.
Thanks Laura! (I deleted it because you used my name…but thanks for the love!)
Your little girls will always be best buddies. I think it is wonderful that you are having another girl. My son has two darling daughters that are so close. His brother and sister have one of each. He is always joking that he doesn't have a son but he spoils his nephews. I had a girl then 3 boys.
Congratulations! I have four girls and our family is complete. I love buying something feminine to my oldest and knowing it will be passed down to her little sisters, instead of going the unisex road. I think we have less toys too. My mother likes her big family but while growing up she didn't especially enjoy having 5 older brothers and a baby brother. Where I live the families are small though so people in general don't know what to say after: you have four girls??
Congratulations…now to decide on his blog name! I love PSP and Lamp, they are super perfect.
Sorry – *HER* blog name
So happy for your family 🙂 I am a proud mom of three boys – and before having kids never saw myself as a "boy" mom. Now they are 21, 19, and 14…and I have to admit to loving our identity as the "boy" family. My sons are very different, and I honestly never felt like I was missing out on anything. I also kind of like the role of "only girl."
It's so amazing to see what type of family God has planned for each of us.
Hi,
I had a boy 22 years ago. I went through a messy divorce, and never thought I would have anymore children…well when I wasn't looking…boom I fell in love and found myself with a baby girl at 38. Then boom…another baby girl at 41. I am now 45 and loving the dynamic between my 7 year old and 4 year old girls. I secretly wish I had found this wonderful man sooner and I know I would have a whole bunch of kiddos running around. Having had both I can honestly say…I Love the girl power in our house!
CONGRATULATIONS! Have fun!
sorry about that! But huge congrats again.
Hi Miggy,
I don't know you but I love reading your blog, especially your Special Needs Spotlight. Congrats on your next little girl! I grew up the second of 6 kids—4 girls in 6 years, and then two boys a few years later. Growing up with three sisters was such a blessing in my life. We are all so close today. It's cliche, but I don't know what I would do without my sisters! Yes, it was a bit of a challenge when we had 4 teenage girls in the house (I honestly don't know how my poor father survived haha!) But I wouldn't trade my sisters for anything. When my husband and I found out were having our second little girl, I was so happy. I would love a little boy some day, but if we end up with only girls I will not be disappointed in the least. Sisters are a gift like no other! Congrats again!
Oh, and I think it's funny someone mentioned lawn mowing…the girls in my family mowed the lawn for years until my little brother was old enough to take over!
Woohoo!! Congratulations to all! Wish we lived closer. 🙂
Congratulations ! I am the eldest of 3 girls. One of my sisters has 4 girls, the other one has 2 girls. We do foster care & had 2 boys & 1 girl for many years, the boys have moved on now so we just have our 1 girl , all the cousins are girls now which is lovely for them when we all get together.
I am fine of three girls and I LOVE my sisters. We mowed the lawn every week! And helped with chopping wood, building things, and lots of "boy" stuff. Now I am a mother with four children– FOUR DAUGHTERS!! And I love having four girls. My girls are best friends. We have boy and girl toys. We save money on clothes! I love having all girls. We are planning on more children and I hope for more girls.
I have FIVE sisters and there was a little bit of fighting going on when we were growing up but now we are really and truly best friends! I would rather hang out with my sisters than anyone. Now I have three girls and hope it will be the same for them.
I'm about to deliver my third girl any day now. We also have 6 and 3 year old girls. I love having all one sex. I was sure my first would be a boy, but surprise! Then I was thrilled to give her a sister. When I found out I was pregnant with #3 I was terrified to have a boy. I have so much experience with girls, we have all the clothes and toys, etc. Finding out it was a girl was a relief in many ways and my girlies are thrilled. My husband sounds like yours, he is a great Dad to girls and hopefully they will pick men just like him when they grow up.
I'm the 2nd of 6 girls, no boys. SUPER-Charged drama at my house but tons of fun with all the Barbies and girlie stuff. My poor dad! He was a sports nut and usually retreated to his room and turned on ESPN really loud to drown out the drama downstairs. 😉 Sadly there are a few of my sisters who aren't on speaking terms as adults, but one of my sisters is my very best friend in the whole world. It is tough to have all the emotions of just girls, but there's also a closeness that you don't get as much with all boys. Good luck and congratulations!
