This was just one of those wonderful-for-no-special-reason weekends. We just did and were if that makes any sense. Doing the things that currently make us us, and living in the moment enjoying the togetherness that is our family. It started with the new camera lens the Mr. got on Friday…pictures were plenty and so far we’re loving the results.
Saturday morning found us at the farmers market, showing dad our latest Riverwalk discovery, followed by swimming lessons for PSP.
For some reason these swimming lessons are starting to signify the beginning of a whole new phase of life for me. The one where our lives revolve around school and extra curricular activities and busy, busy, busy. Perhaps that’s why I’ve been feeling the extra need to slow down and enjoy my sweet little family. PSP is finishing up her last month of preschool. Ever. It’s this one last summer for us and then Kindergarten starts in the fall. Which is why this summer is starting to feel super important and monumental. These are my last days with my oldest under my wing all day, every day. In some ways I’m relieved (she’s ready my friends), but in other ways I can’t wrap my mind around the fact that from here on out I’ll be knowing less and less about what she does all day and who she does it with. It’s a little mind boggling. Plus, do you ever feel like you’re leaving out a teeny-tiny bit of information when you start getting your kid all psyched up for kindergarten? It’s all Wow–I can’t believe it! You’re so grown up! Kindergarten. Desks, and pencils and playgrounds and teachers…this is so exciting! Oh and did I forget to mention that you’ll be doing this for the next decade and a half of your life?
Of course Mother’s Day was a beautiful way to cap off a beautiful weekend together. Because of the aforementioned changes on the horizon I can’t help but feel a constant pulse of gratitude for my family and what a blessing they are to me. So when the traditional breakfast in bed was served Sunday morning looking like this…
I couldn’t have been happier to have it then looking like this…
And I know little miss P would want you to take special note of her fancy pinky-up drinking posture.
Little people wanting to sit next to Mama and can I have a drink of this? and can I have a bite of that? I loved it. I just soaked it all in. And for the first time I felt like perhaps this holiday is a little backwards. Perhaps instead of celebrating me as the mother, I should be celebrating them, husband included, for making me and allowing me to be a mother. It’s the greatest give I’ve ever been given.
Happy Mother’s Day to me.
Special thanks to Kelle Hampton of Enjoying the Small Things for featuring me on her special Mother’s Day post. Humbled, honored and super excited to be receiving a copy of her book Bloom.
yeah, being a mother is pretty amazing.
my oldest is going into first grade this fall- so all day, too. i had a hard time anticipating kindergarten, but now i'm worried about the all day, so i feel you. but for all my worry, it was an easier transition than i expected. it helps for you to be busy with sibling(s), and she'll love it!
You managed to capture all the feelings in my own heart and put them into words… every word resonated. We should catch up again soon- this made me miss you and long for a good conversation.
I have been meaning to write about Bloom! how neat that you were featured on her blog.
what a lovely weekend!
Your family is adorable! That last picture is just beautiful. The love and happiness shines through. And I LOVE what you said about the teeny tiny parts we leave out when building the excitement around starting Kindergarten! So true!
i read kelle and came here from her. i also celebrate mothers day by making it a day that we do what the kids want, and i give them breakfast in bed and cards and flowers and stuff. my mother did it for me, my grandmother did it for her. it makes for a perfect day for me as well!
thanks for sharing!!
