This is most likely going to be a three part mini-series on some of the latest and greatest Lamp developments.
I have so much to say these days. So many things I want to write about, talk about, topics I want to discuss and people I want to interview…. One of the topics that’s been at the forefront for some time is all the cool ways Lamp is figuring stuff out. However, the thing about kids is just when they start doing something…they figure it out, master it and move on to something else. I just can’t keep up and frankly a lot of this is just plain old news…
I’ve wanted to show pictures of her holding a book with her foot and flipping the pages with her hand. I can’t tell you what a cool moment this was when I suddenly realized what she was doing.
I’ve wanted to show pictures of her coloring, one of her favorite activities. She colors with the aid of a wrist band I made her.
And I’ve wanted to show pictures of her using her wrist band to release the marker, flip through her coloring book, then with a flick of her wrist, grab said marker again and resume coloring.
I’ve wanted to show pictures of how she likes to clean the windows (or any surface really) with wipes. Wipes mama, wipes.
Or even just show some pictures of the awesome ways she figures out how to hold things.
But the novelty of these things has sorta come and gone. In one sense these things are milestones I never imagined, but in another sense she’s just like any other kid…she’s figuring her world out. That’s what kids do. Only in her case, I’m not showing her what to do or how to do it. This is all her own amazingness. It’s true that we all love our kids and think everything they do is amazing anyway, whether it’s learning to walk or pooping in the toilet. But I have to say, watching her navigate this world in a completely original, authentic little Lampy way is awe-inspiring and awe-mazing. But like any kid, these newly acquired talents have come too quickly to actually document each one.
But there is one thing that tops the cool-things-I-want-to-tell-you-about-list for the past couple months. It’s her feet. Lamp is doing cool, cool stuff with her feet and I can’t get over it. She grabs, holds and picks up stuff with her feet. With her toes. Like her fishy crackers. Which she loves to pick up one by one and put them in a bowl.
And if you thought drawing with a wrist band was cool, then hold onto your hats….
My daughter draws with her feet ya’ll.
I love this entry so very much! thank you for showing off your amazing Lamp and all her amazing Lampiness.
Yes we all think are kids are amazing be we think yours are amazing too! If we tried to draw with our feet we'd give up pretty soon, but she knew that she'd figure it out sooner or later. This is awesomeness overload.
She's a dream.
What a talented, smart, and determined little lady you have… Lamp is a light!
I'm all teary-eyed from looking at these wonderful pictures! Lamp is one amazing, little person! Thank you so much for sharing her with us.

I've been thinking about this post for days, since I read it late the night you posted it. I don't know what to say…I just love everything about it and it has sparked a discussion in my brain about letting our children figure things out on their own, in their own way…
She's a gem.

I could say dito to what Faux Fuchsia siad ^. I have just started reading your blog and I, too, am loving it. I don't read a whole lot, and very rarely am I emotionally touched by what I read, but your writing is so flawless and visceral. I can truly feel your deep love for your sweet little girl through your writing. Every word is so heartfelt, thoughtful and meaningful. Your little Lamp sure lets her light shine! I hope that someday I can be but half the mom you are to your beautiful children.
