Our time in the Queen City is drawing to a close. I’m surprised how much this place has grown on me in the past 2 years. I admit I came into Cincinnati with low expectations and the typical snooty attitude of someone who had just moved away from New York City. How could any place be better than the City? I mean it’s New York City for crying out loud. But I have really grown to love it here and when I was house hunting in San Antonio a week ago is when it really started to hit me. So I thought I’d do a little farewell series to Cincinnati. A place we called home for a short 2 years, but a place that we’ll always look back on fondly and a place that will always be near and dear to our hearts.
So today I’ll be highlighting the number one thing we’ll miss the most in Cincinnati…and that is the people. Of course.
(Just for the record the people are also what I miss most about New York).

One thing I’ve learned about living in all these different places is that you can live anywhere if you’re surrounded by great people. The people and the friends that we’ve come to know and love have been wonderful. I still remember when we were contemplating buying our house. I looked up the local ward (that’s a fancy way of saying congregation for you non Mormons out there) and I talked with the Bishop’s wife. I asked her about the ward and our neighborhood in particular. She said that the ward was great, there were lots of young families and that the area we were looking at in particular had a lot of families with young children close by. I got off the phone from that call and felt confident we were in the right place. And we were. From the very beginning we were lucky to have people who opened their doors and their hearts to our little family. This was especially true when I was pregnant with Lamp and had the most crazy, eventful and I’ve-got-to-get-to-the-hospital-now-can-you-watch-my-3-year-old? pregnancy I could have ever imagined. The people in Cincinnati have been a critical part of our growth and development as individuals and as a family during these past two years. Of course for me being a stay at home mom I have been especially lucky in my association with the women in our area. There were baby showers and book groups, kid swapping and play dates, outings and gatherings. These women picked Princess Sparkle and I up from the airport when we first arrived, they threw me a baby shower, saw me through post partum depression and cared for my children like they were their own.
So to our dear Cincinnati family…we love you. We will miss you. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all you have done for our little family. We are more grateful than you’ll ever know. And if you’re ever in San Antonio, you know you have a place to stay.
