I too am an 11pm scissor wielding woman. I love being able to get a haircut at a moments notice and I would have to agree it is quite the rush. Whenever you get a compliment on your hair or asked who your stylist is, you can quietly smile to yourself.ReplyCancel

It looks beautiful, Miggy! When my layers get too grown out, I occasionally do a bit of haphazard layer trimming on the top of my head to try to get rid of some of the flatness. I've also occasionally recruited my hubby to cut the length a bit. Oh, by the way, did B know you were going to cut it? What does he think of his new wife? ; )ReplyCancel

And I should have put in the post that I actually started cutting my own hair in high school…so this wasn't the first time. However, it's definitely the first time I've cut this much off and completely changed my style….usually cutting my own hair amounts to a trim.

Also, Linda P. –good question. No my husband didn't know! He was at the BYU/UT game. So I was doing this without his knowledge and perhaps that also fueled the adrenaline a little. So I took the trashcan with all my chopped off hair and put it in the front hallway with a note that said "I did it! I hope you still like me! –A"ReplyCancel

Yay! Yay! Yay, Miggy, that the nicer weather is encouraging you! Our N. Texas weather has been soo much better the past couple of days with highs in the 80's as opposed to 100+ like we've been having. I just wanted you to know that when the temps started going down, I specifically thought of YOU, just hoping it was a bit cooler where you were, too. : D

I think you are going to LOVE the fall weather to come. We have sooooo many nice days even in the winter. We do have some cold snaps and occasional snow or ice, but most of the time I do LUV me some moderate Texas winter weather!ReplyCancel

LOVE IT! What a terrific idea and way to get everyone excited about the new school year! And Miggs, your table was absolutely beautiful! And what a great theme "responsibility"… also a spelling lesson in there! PSP must have felt SO special… and truly this places a good and positive emphasis on learning and school. Fabulous!

I love the non-traditional meals one can make festive… when you guys were little, I did a very festive Valentine Breakfast… strawberry pancakes and a very lovely table set complete with Valentines for all. The table could be set & decorated the night before… A wonderful, hot and celebratory breakfast was especially great on snowy Valentine's mornings.

And for your younger brother we did a very fun Halloween dinner for JW and his little friends. After the kids left for "Trick or Treating", I'd reset the table for the adults and we'd eat, chat and enjoy until the little Gobblins came back to warm up and have more chilie and pumpkin soup and cider. Of course this worked when the kids were around 7 or 8 (or oder) and could at least go in the neighborhood alone for a while. Then we could all go in the car to further neighborhoods. Memories…

Speaking of "Back to School" themed meals… A Good friend of mine used to do a swell pot luck brunch for all the moms the first friday after the first full week of school…. kind of a "Mom Celebration"! This was especially great when the kids were in middle school and beyond. It was a lot of fun and gave us all a chance to re-connect and "gather our forces" at the beginning of the school year.

I love this post. I am going to go read it again. :> I so strongly second the idea. We have a kid with special needs and I hate to tell you, but a very very smart and prominent dr at a big children's research hospital actually said, "don't hope for much." I am sorry, but that not only makes me hope for much, it irritates me enough that I will work my butt off for much.

I think we all have unlimited potential. ALL of us. We just have to explore it. We all top out at some point, but there is a big difference between topping out at Point A (not trying at all) and topping out at Point Z (trying with all you've got). That's 26 letters of difference! :>

I am happy to report that our little Mr. "don't hope for much" is age 9, in the 4th grade at the public school with everyone else his age, and in a regular classroom, where he does 90% regular work (he is alas behind in math – but NOT MUCH). :>ReplyCancel

This is so true, and it makes me realize how lazy I have been by cutting myself short on my potential. This post was incredibly motivating for me, so thank you! (I want to work out in the mornings, too!)

It also touches on what I was getting at in my last post. If only society would believe in my daughter as much as I do, she would be destined to have the same shot at success and reaching her full potential as anyone.
